Page 1:
There are only 3 birthdays that we celebrate in the Catholic church-Jesus, St. John the Baptist and Mary. When we celebrate a birthday in the church, we call it a Nativity.
Page 2:
Notice the symbols around the pictures of the different apparitions of Mary.
- The drop of water is around Our Lady of Lourdes. This reminds us of the spring of water that St. Bernadette dug for Our Lady. People from all over the world travel to the Lourdes waters for spiritual and physical healing.
- Notice the suns around Our Lady of Fatima. This reminds of us the “dancing sun” miracle that took place during the apparition of Mary at Fatima.
- The roses around Our Lady of Guadalupe remind of us of the story of St. Juan Diego when he took roses from Our Lady in his tilma to the bishop.
Page 3:
Take time to reflect that because Jesus gave us His mother, we are all brothers and sisters.
St. Teresa of Calcutta is often known as Mother Teresa. She helped many poor people and gave them food and baths. She saw Jesus in all of them.
Saintly Rhymes for Modern Times is a short fun poem book of saints that includes St. Teresa of Calcutta.
St. Teresa of Calcutta also has a story in Children’s Book of Heroes for extended story time.
Page 4:
- Have a classroom or family discussion on the different ways you can give Mary a birthday present.
- You can also make a classroom/family book about what each child would like to give. Start with the title page-“Happy Birthday Mary”, give each child a page for the book to draw what they would like to give.
- Give Mary a birthday party! Decorate your classroom or your home with party decorations.
- Talk about the presents you can give to one another
- Talk about the many apparitions of Mary
Social/Emotional Learning
- How can I show love for Mary and wish her a happy birthday?
- Do chores around the house without being asked
- Smile and wave at people in the grocery store
- Give up a toy to a friend, brother or sister when they ask

Extras
- Our Lady’s Wardrobe is a book that includes the “clothes Mary wears now that she’s in heaven” and showcases many apparitions, including the three in this booklet.
- Our featured word for this booklet to indicate the page numbers is MARY. We chose this because we wanted the littles to remember Our Blessed Mother throughout this booklet.
