Tiny Treasures

Page 1:

Notice how the angel seems to be helping Mary to go to Heaven. God had to help Mary go to Heaven. Jesus is the only person who didn’t need help going to Heaven.

Page 2:

The angels and saints live in Heaven. The rest of us live on earth. Mary is Queen of everyone, no matter where they live.

St. Maximilian Kolbe was a prisoner of war in World War II. During the war, people who believed differently were sometimes captured and made prisoners. In the picture he has a striped shirt on his shoulder, this was a uniform that he had to wear so the guards could tell he was a prisoner. While St. Maximilian Kolbe was there, he gave up his life for another prisoner.

  • Take time and talk to the students about what is a prayer corner. Maybe send an email to parents saying that a prayer corner is a special place in your home where you can go and pray. Throughout the year we will encourage the students to place or hang items here.
    • Please note: Parents may have a special table at home and will call this a prayer table.
    • See the document below for more info about how to start a prayer corner or table!
  • How to teach the blending of the word, “HAIL”
    • When there are 2 vowels together (like A & I), the first vowel is long (says its name) and the second vowel is silent. “When 2 vowels go walking, the first 1 does the talking.”
  • HAIL is the first word in our prayer, “Hail Mary”. This is a greeting that the archangel, Gabriel, spoke to Mary when he asked her to be Jesus’s mother.
  • Teach the “Hail Mary” to your students

Social/Emotional Learning

  • Growing in Virtue of Love
    • How can I show love for my family and friends: by doing what my mom and dad ask me to do, by sharing my toys with my brothers, sisters, and friends. When I do good deeds for other people it makes me feel good about myself and know that’s what Jesus would want me to do. I like making other people happy.

Days to Watch for

  • Aug 14- Feast day of St. Maximilian Kolbe
  • Aug 15 – Feast of the Assumption of Mary
  • Aug 22-Feast of the Queenship of Mary

Extras

  • Marian Consecration with kids – this Marian Consecration for Families with Young Children is a simple, gorgeous resource. (Maryvale Press earns a commission for purchases made through links in this post.)
  • If you have Mary statue at your house, you could make a flower crown for her with flowers found in the yard or from a store.
  • Place your paper statue from the back of booklet in your prayer corner at home. Place the crown on her head.
